TCR Sport Lab Ltd was founded in 2006 by Cory Fagan, Jill Sagan and Janet Lattimer Skieth. We offer a comprehensive range of services provided by highly trained personnel to support both the recreational and high performance athletes. TCR is a business that is constantly evolving in order to meet the needs of clients and to stay on the leading edge of the health and fitness industry.

The company has steadily grown and evolved into two divisions: TCR Sport Lab and TCR Bike Lab. The Sport Lab provides professional grade fitness testing services in its unique physiology lab. Comprehensive on-line coaching and several group programs for triathlon, cycling and running complement the lab services. TCR Bike Lab consists of a scientific bike fitting and custom bicycle lab. Colnago and Guru Bicycles are the quality brands that TCR represents. In addition, TCR has a new service centre for road and triathlon bikes with all the major brands for parts and bike building.

Staff Bios

Cory Fagan BPE, MSc


Exercise Physiologist and Coach

Cory started TCR Sport Lab in 2006 with his wife Jill Sagan, Janet Lattimer Skeith and Rick Skeith. Cory obtained an undergraduate honours degree in Physical Education in 1996 and Master of Science Degree in Kinesiology in 2000, both from the University of Calgary. During his graduate work, Cory focused on advanced methodologies of exercise testing, strength training for athletes and applied exercise physiology. Over the last 10 years, he has taken his academic background and complemented it with several years of participating and competing in triathlon, cycling and running.

Prior to dedicating his efforts full time to endurance sports, Cory's athletic background included competing and coaching in power sports such as Jr. Hockey, Track and Olympic Weightlifting. From 1997-1999, Cory was the strength coach for the University of Calgary Men's Hockey Team and the National Women's Hockey Team in 1997. From 1999-2005, Cory was also one of the head strength and conditioning coaches for the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) Athletics program .

Cory’s most notable athletic accomplishments have been Ironman Canada, the TransRockies, the Cancervive Calgary to Austin and San Jose Peloton Projects, and the PowderFace Trail Marathon. Some of his most recent interests include the optimization of fat metabolism through new concepts in nutrition research. In addition, Cory has recently developed an advanced bike lab for bike fitting and custom bike design.

TCR Sport lab is the result of years of hard work and Cory’s passion for sport and applied sport science. His diverse background and desire to help individuals achieve their goals makes him one of top coaches and exercise physiologists today.

In his spare time, Cory and his wife Jill enjoy skiing and being in the country with their horses and dogs.

Jill Sagan CSIA III, CSCF II


Partner and Coaching Consultant

At TCR Sport Lab, we believe that it takes more than an athlete to be a coach. As both a certified instructor CSIA Level III instructor and CSCF coach for over 13 years, Jill’s presence on our team ensures that TCR’s coaching skills and methods of instruction remain current and dynamic at all times. She helps our staff understand that we must use more than one method of teaching skills to ensure our clients are receiving the best service possible. Jill also helps manage the daily operations and business planning of TCR. Outside of TCR, Jill is an avid horse person and Reiki practitioner. She will be also riding her bike from Calgary to Austin, Texas for the Cancervive Peloton Project in 2010.

Mike Patton MKin, CEP


Exercise Physiologist, Coach and Bike Fitting Specialist

Mike has been a part of TCR since May 2008, and has been focused on integrating sport science into all of the facets of TCR's business. Mike's role at TCR is very diverse: he is the head lab technician, coaches athletes from a wide range of sports from cycling to kayaking, performs the majority of the bike fits and develops all the training programs for TCR's Computrainer Spin Classes.

Beginning with an Undergraduate Degree in Kinesiology, he worked at the Canadian Sport Centre - Calgary for two years, and has just recently completed his Master's Degree in Applied Exercise Physiology from the University of Calgary. He is also a Certified Exercise Physiologist, designated by the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology.

While at the Sport Centre, Mike was involved in testing many of the Olympic and National-team athletes that train in and around Calgary, as well as assisting with top secret research that was being done to give Canadian athletes the edge going into the 2010 Olympics.

Mike was also involved in many research projects throughout his Master's, including one study which looked to validate the Myotest for force and power measurement and another study where he developed custom software for the analysis of breathing data in people with respiratory diseases. His major individual research project involved assessing a new mathematical model of the responsiveness of the body's aerobic energy system.

Mike is a passionate competitor in both track and road cycling and has been competing since 2001. Mike's biggest cycling achievements include:

Prior to competing in bike racing, Mike played or participated in Hockey, Swimming, Water Polo, Football, Track & Field and Triathlon. Currently, Mike also enjoys a variety of sports and activities, including cross-country skiing and woodworking. While away from work and cycling, Mike enjoys spending time with his wife Rhonda and their dog, Charlie.

Syl Corbett BSc. Exercise Science, MSc-c


ONE Practitioner and Endurance Coach

Syl has been coaching for since TCR since 2006. She has over 15 years of racing experience in triathlon, extreme racing, snowshoe, mountain running and marathoning. An accomplished professional endurance triathlete, Syl has competed on numerous teams, such as Canada's National Elite Triathlon and Duathlon Teams, Nike ACG/Atlas Snowshoe Team, Team Salomon USA, Balance Bar USA, National Mountain Running Team, Gomes Team-European Triathlon League/Hall, Germany and Florida-based Team Running Wild. Recently, Syl has competed for Canada at the World Championships and Commonwealth Games in Mountain Running.

In addition to her professional racing career, Syl has been coaching endurance sports for over 14 years including running seminars, gait analysis and training camps. She has also had the opportunity to work extensively with Dr. Romanov, the founder of the Pose Method of running.

Today, Syl is in graduate school through the University of Arizona studying neuromusclar physiology. She has developed her own methodology of treatment for clinical and normal populations called Optimal Neuromuscular Efficiency (ONE).

Syl looks forward to coaching and treating athletes of all levels.

Jeffery Zahavich MSc-c, CEP


Exercise Physiologist and Endurance Coach

Jeff is in the midst of completing a Masters of Science (MSc) degree in Kinesiology at the University of Calgary. His coaching experiences draw from experience in a number of endurance events including mountain bike racing (TransRockies), marathon and trail running (Powderface42), and long distance triathlons (Ironman Canada 2010).

Jeff is a Certified Exercise Physiologist (CEP) from the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP) and has been with TCR since May 2008.

Dave Crooks BSc(PE)


Endurance Coach

Dave is a very experienced athlete and coach in the endurance scene. He completed his Bachelor degree in Physical Education from St. Francis Xavier University. Dave has been coaching athletes for close to 20 years and has competed in many triathlons, distance running and bike races since 1991.

Dave has seen every "trend" in the sport and many fads come and go (have you ever heard of a seat leash?). His first Ironman was in 1992 and has completed 13 since then. Dave's proudest accomplishments involve being a Dad to his two young girls, a husband, and seeing "non-runners" turn into Iron-people. Daves loves a challenge, and living life to its fullest.

John Sasso BHK, MKin-c, CEP


Exercise Physiologist and Endurance Coach

John is in the final year of his Master's Degree in Kinesiology at the University of Calgary. John is studying applied exercise physiology for sport performance as well as clinical applications.

He has been the head MRTC Swim coach for TCR for the last year as well our assisting in our computrainer and 70.3 programs. John has many years of coaching swimming, triathlon as well experience with physical rehabilitation and athletic therapy. He is an avid endurance athlete even during the busy times of graduate school.

Rick Skeith LLB


Rick is our man behind the scenes. A partner at the Macleod-Dixon law firm, he has been a business partner with TCR Sport Lab since 2007. Rick is a committed endurance athlete and Ironman participant. He has done six Ironman races as well as several marathons. Rick is one of our key staff at our Ironman training camps, computrainer classes, swim groups and all other TCR functions.

Craig Good PhD


Dr. Good is our bike man! A professional engineer, Craig has been helping out coaching at our Ironman Training Camps over the last 3 years. He has a wealth of racing experience in Road Racing, Track and Cyclo-Cross. Craig even did an Ironman a few years ago to complete the circle!

In 2010, Craig will play a prominent role in our TCR Masters Cycling Team as a coordinator and coach.

Rick Wolcott


Rick is one of our fantastic TCR volunteers. He can been seen helping out at our daytime computrainer classes and all our running programs. Retired, his background in fitness and sports is diverse and ranges from fitness testing in the Alberta Forest Service, deep water diving, Ultra runs, marathons and triathlons. Rick is also our resident carpenter who can build, weld and machine just about anything for us!

Gus and Monique Fagan


Gus and Monique are also some of our fantastic TCR volunteers. Parents of Cory, Gus and Monique can be seen daily around TCR in the summer months. Our previous homepage for TCR Sport Lab, if you had seen it before, had the picture of Gus qualifying for the Boston Marathon which he has done three times in his 60's!! Both active hikers and runners, Gus and Monique help out with all of TCR's renovations and special projects.

Kelly Doody BA


Kelly was a 2000-05 Canadian National Triathlon Team member. Kelly is one of our MRTC swim coaches for TCR. She has spent five years on the National Swim Team specializing in the 200 and 400 IM (the complete swimmer!). She really enjoys teaching new triathletes to swim efficiently and to have fun. During the day, Kelly is a journalist for the Calgary Sun on Page 6.

Jill Kirker NCCP Triathlon Coach


After competing in triathlon for 14 years, Jill turned her hand to helping others find the joy of this fast growing sport. Three years ago she began coaching full time and has found that this is the best job ever. She loves working with athletes, both advanced and beginner toward their goals. She is a certified NCCP coach (Intro to Competition - Triathlon) the training of which includes focusing on the whole athlete; physical, emotional, and social. Some key highlights to her coaching includes the TCR Penticton camp and the wonderful committed athletes in the Mount Royal Tri Club who she gets to see swimming, biking and running 3 days a week.

Charlie LLewellyn BA, Canfit Pro


Charlie has been a coach with MRTC for the past three years. She brings a wealth of triathlon racing experience from sprints to several Ironman and really enjoys helping people participate in this growing sport.

Jennifer deCocq

Jennifer deCocq -Jennifer has been involved in the fitness industry for over 27 years instructing, designing and implementing fitness programs, managing facilities, providing fitness workshops, training Fitness Leaders and has experienced international exposure. She is a certified fitness professional with AFLCA, YOGA Alliance, CanFitPro, Gravity Training Systems, TRX, Precision Cycling and Pilates and Master Trainer for FusionFitness. She has completed numerous 1/2marathons, 22 marathons to date including 2 Boston marathons, several ½ Ironmans and the international Ironman Canada Penticton where she placed 5th in her age group. Jennifer co-facilitated the University of Calgary Honolulu Marathon Training program for 11 years and continues to coach both in the program and for private clients. She is primarily based out of Heavens Fitness for Personal Training but also provides training and Fusion Fitness class instruction to a wide variety of active interested clients through out Calgary. Jennifer is inspired by, motivated by and supported by her 3 guys; husband Dean and active sons Caston and Jace.
